Crushed. Totally crushed. That's how I feel right now, and will feel for a while yet I'm sure. Yesterday Les and I rented a car from Avis becasue we had two gigs and wanted something to transport all our gear and not rely on anybody else (we've just picked up yet another gig, on a Sunday afternoon at Buccaneer Bar in Pelican Keys/Kim Sha Beach). After our first gig we went to eat at Warung Bali before our next gig there and took inside all the PA equipment but left our two guitars in the car, parked in a brightly lit area just off the road right in front of the Lady C Floating Bar. When we came out 30 mins later, the window was smashed and everything was gone. My beautiful red priceless guitar in pristine condition that I got for my 21st birthday is gone. So is my harmonica, tamborine, egg shaker(s), guitar tuner, and expensive carry case. So is Les's new guitar, microphone, wallet, and personal notebook/journal. There goes our livelihood, but somehow we'll get through this and continue to do what we do well. We managed to borrow two guitars last night and play the gig anyway. God knows we could do with the money now. Today I took the day off diving work and have been dealing with glass companies, rental companies, and my own state of mind. We have many people out looking for our stuff, including some dude who knows all the local crackheads and who reckons that he'll be able to get them back for sure, but I'm not holding my breath. I still have my drum thank God. And now we're going to have to rely on Les's crappy old guitar for the upcoming gigs this week, and no guitar for me, just the drum. If they don't turn up within the next week, we'll have to buy new ones I guess. They want me to go on the radio tomorrow night, for another profile of a local musician. But I don't think I can do it just yet. I would give anything for my guitar back. |
